This week in the kitchen

Monday/30-Nov-15: Finished off the stuffing and sweet potato puff for dinner. With the mashed potatoes, I made Easy Potato and Pea Samosas (web) with the last three sheets of leftover brick in the fridge. I had about 2/3 of the potato weight, but used the full amount of spices. Quite tasty for little effort.

Tuesday/1-Dec-15: Used the ABM this morning to make Multigrain Bread from a magazine clipping; it's possibly from VT, but I haven't been able to find it online with such a distinctive name. Used up some buttermilk; thought I had some wheat bran, but couldn't find it, so used oat bran instead. Pretty good stuff, strong taste of honey, nice texture.

For dinner I marinated some bavettes, steamed some broccoli, cooked some mushroom-flavored pasta and mixed that with some sautéed garlic, shrooms, and parsley. Pretty good stuff altogether. We had a mini magnums for dessert.

Wednesday/2-Dec-15: Before we did our grocery shopping we bought some grout and the edging bits for the kitchen tiles. Took a box and some clothes to Emmaus, hoping for a good look around, but the shops were closed. Too bad.

Not feeling all that well and after all the errands, I didn't feel like doing the fish dinner planned. Rearranged the plan a bit and instead made a half recipe of Chicken with Green Peppercorn Sauce (web), which was pretty good. Served with mashed potatoes and peas and carrots. Then a big salad.

Thursday/3-Dec-15: No voice today. Feeling bletch. Dinner was Jool's Fish Pie (web), which was surprisingly good. Mixed fish (smoked haddock bought on sale last week, salmon, and cod), spinach, hard-boiled eggs, topped with a white sauce with cheddar, and covered with mashed potatoes (the eggs cooked for the last 8 minutes with the potatoes) and a sprinkle of cheddar. Easy, but lots of clock time. Kind of a shepherd's pie with fish. Yummy. We'll be eating this several more times in the next week.

Friday/4-Dec-15: We were supposed to eat out at lunch today, a friend's birthday lunch, but I'm too sick (cold, no voice, small temp) so stayed home. Fruit for dinner. Nothing happened in the kitchen.

Saturday/5-Dec-15: Felt no worse when I got up today, hooray. Still can't talk. Went to la Roche to pick up our new glasses. More of Jool's Fish Pie for dinner. With some broccoli. And some scrumptious chocolate tarts Ed bought at the boulanger today.

Yogurt on overnight. (Made some earlier in the week but forgot to note it.)

Sunday/6-Dec on-15: I'm starting the getting better trip while Ed is getting sick.

Later afternoon we had lunch/dinner: Poached Egg on Toast with Chipotle Mayonnaise, Bacon and Avocado (web). Good stuff. Later we had some fruit followed by mini mags.

Changed the Foods of the World schedule so that the current book goes through December and the remaining eight have six weeks each, to finish in 2016. I hope.

Not one dish from a cookbook this week. Not much cooking for that matter.
