This week in the kitchen

Monday/2-Nov-20: Picked up an order from Leclerc today.

Another week, another day when I didn't feel like making what was on the meal plan. Sigh. Instead we had Warm Broccoli and Potato Salad (MDSalads, p15), an old standby. Satisfying and good, as always. Store-bought riz au laits for after.

Yogurt on overnight.

Tuesday/3-Nov-20: Dinner a halfish dose of Pappardelle with Butternut and Blue Cheese (web). Used a potimarron instead of a butternut; half of the cubes went into the freezer. Roquefort for the cheese, because that's what there was. Pretty good stuff. The other pair of store-bought riz aus laits for after.

Wednesday/4-Nov-20: Made a loaf of Buckwheat Bread (BigGerman, p38) (WW/Rapid/M/-/-). Very tasty, nice texture

Dinner was a halfish recipe of Grenadins de Porc à la Crème (VPG; web), thick slices of varkenshaas with a sauce of crème fraîche and shrooms. Served with the last of some kind of pasta, I think it was kind of whole wheat fusilli, not very tasty. And some corn, peas, and red bell pepper (from the freezer, that). Some squares of chocolate after.

Thursday/5-Nov-20: Picked up an order from Intermarché Drive today.

Dinner was a half recipe of Saumon à l'Unilateral Chardenoux (BistroWells, p145), skin-on salmon fillets cooked in butter without turning. Served with Smoked Potatoes (BistroWells, p146) as suggested. Then a salad of sucrines, beets, and onion with some of the dressing left from Monday's broccoli-potato salad. Some chocolate-covered madeleines for after.

Friday/6-Nov-20: Dinner was a halfish recipe of Chicken Fajitas with Spiralized Zucchini and Peppers (Spiral, p126). Pretty good, if not fantastic. The recipe isn't very well written, e.g., ingredients whose use is divided between steps are not indicated as divided. I used my new Oxo spiralizer (single blade). I gave the electric one to a charity shop, a big clunky thing (four blades) that I didn't use very much. The Oxo one is small and make better spirals for just a bit of effort. A pair of chocolate-covered madeleines each for after.

Yogurt on overnight.

Saturday/7-Nov-20: Made a loaf of Buttermilk Bread (BigGerman, p18) (Basic/Rapid/M/d/-). Pretty good stuff. Made with 2cups T65 (bread flour) and 1cup T110 (white whole wheat flour).

Dinner was Egg Noodles with Goat Cheese Sauce (web). This was simple and good, but I forgot to notice that it was meant as a starter, not as a main. Followed by a big salad. Then Ed had some bread with more goat cheese. And some mini HD ice cream cups for after.

Sunday/8-Nov-20: Yesterday's Buttermilk Bread being almost gone, I made a loaf of Oatmeal Bread (BigGerman, p26) (Basic/Rapid/M/d/-).

After last night's dinner, I developed an itch for something Thai or otherwise SE Asian. We had a halfish recipe of Spicy Ground Chicen—Laab Gai (Delightful, p91). This was pretty darn good, in spite of the face that I was out of limes. (Used lemon juice instead.) Served with Thai Cucumber Salad with Peanuts (web), my go-to Thai salad recipe. For "dessert" we each had a slice of Oatmeal Bread.

This week in the kitchen

Monday/14-Mar-16: Dinner was an easy one, Shrimp in Green Sauce (Essential, p430; cookbooker). Only about a third of the parsley was the flat kind, since I bought curly parsley last week. And shallots instead of scallions. Still good. Served with polenta. And mini mags for after.

Tuesday/15-Mar-16: We had a Groupon lunch out today. Nothing happened in the kitchen this evening. Except for yogurt on overnight.

Wednesday/16-Mar-16: Shopping today.

Had wanted to make something from this month's Time-Life book tonight, but there was not swordfish on offer. Instead we had Thon à l'Ail Arrantzaleak, Sauce Pipérade (BistoWells, p142). Pretty good this was. The tuna was broiled then served with a garlic sauce (lots of garlic, sautéed, then with red wine vinegar added) which was surprisingly good with the fish. And a Basque pipérade, which was good, but not the best I've had. Then a salad.

Thursday/17-Mar-16: Dinner was Spaghetti with Anchovies, Garlic, and Red Pepper with Lemon-Caper Broccoli (web). This is a magazine clipping, "Cook Once, Eat 3x"—I didn't keep the other bits. The lemon-caper broccoli is a nice side, could be used any only time: a bit of oil, a bit of lemon juice, cooked broccoli, chopped shallots, chopped capers, S&P. Voila! The pasta was simple and yummy. Then a salad. Then some gariguettes (yes, this week again) with vanilla ice cream.

Friday/18-Mar-16: Dinner out tonight. Nothing happened in the kitchen.

Saturday/19-Mar-16: Dinner was Chicken Supreme Dijon (MC), one I haven't made in a long while. Good stuff. All the sauce with just two kip filets. Some brown rice and steamed broccoli on the side. Mini magnums for after.

Yogurt on overnight.

Sunday/20-Mar-16: Trying to get back into the business of cleaning kitchen shelves . Did the left Ivar section today. Discovered that a mouse has been busy with the food umbrellas we have. The last one with daisies has been deflowered. The other one umbrella-style one has been chewed. (Have one more of those still in its plastic wrapper.) What on earth can be interesting about these? Think this is fairly new work, so need to keep an eye out there.

Half recipes of all. Dinner was Steak au Poivre (Essential, p573; cookbooker) using rumsteaks that were pretty thin, so they didn't spend any time in the oven. Used black peppercorns, long pepper, and red peppercorns for the coating. As suggested, served with Mashed Potatoes Anna (Essential, p294; cookbooker) and Haricots Verts with Balsamic Vinaigrette (Essential, p231; cookbooker). All good.

This week in the kitchen

Monday/24-Aug-15: Lunch out today. Some fruit followed by popcorn and a movie for our evening meal.

Tuesday/25-Aug-15: Pasta night at last! We had Dilly Pasta (p75, PastaMach) with Shrimp Dill Sauce (p135, PastaMach). Kind of a so-so dish. Ed thought the whole thing was too dilly. I didn't find that. I did think the pasta might be good with a lemon-cream sauce. Then a big salad. That was nice. Afterwards we had Angel's Kisses, a nice little drink.

Wednesday/26-Aug-15: Tried to get the list done today. Have trouble concentrating and choosing. Too many good things to eat, too tired to think.

Dinner was the leftover yassa. With some whole-wheat couscous, and some broccoli-and-carrots.

Thursday/26-Aug-15: Out all day at a literary festival with Cath. In the evening we ate dinner out. Nothing happened in the kitchen.

Friday/28-Aug-15: Not feeling great today. Shopped.

Dinner was Thon Grillé Sauce Vierge—Grilled Tuna with Herbed Tomato, Garlic, Oil, and Lemon Sauce (p140, BistroWells). Coincidentally, last night we were wondering what sauce vierge was; I'd already planned it for tonight but didn't remember. Duh. Maybe a bit too much olive oil in this recipe, but it was tasty. I didn't slice the tuna on a platter, just on the plate. The sauce was good with everything. Served with little buckwheat pasta, whose name I can't remember right now, and Shredded Zucchini (p87, MW@Home), an old standby. Mini magnums for dessert.

Saturday/29-Aug-15: Hot and humid weather is here again. Ugh. Finished off Dutch and US taxes today. Now only need a trip to the post office.

Dinner was Pork Chops with Hot Garlic Sauce (MC) which was pretty good. Served with Terry's chipotle salsa, which was good, but didn't go at all. For a side I made a halfish recipe of Grilled Zucchini with Tomatoes and Balsamic Vinegar (p308, PeV). Think this was meant to be a main, but worked nice as a side. (Ha, I see I've made this before without the pasta.) Finished off the Nectarine Sorbet, huge servings, good stuff.

Sunday/30-Aug-15: Made apple butter today for the first time in ever so long. Dinner was soup from the freezer, followed by a small scoop of vanilla ice cream with the last of a a bag of frozen raspberries.
