This week in the kitchen

Monday/21-Mar-22: Ed barbecued tonight. We had some really thin sirloin (faux-filet) steaks, marinated in a recipe I collected from EAT-L not too long ago. This was yummy. Served with a made up pasta-coleslaw thing, using up the green cabbage I still had a bit of. One chocolate-covered madeleine each for after.

Tuesday/22-Mar-22: Dinner was Tuna Cakes with Lemon Dijon Sauce (web). These were okay, but nothing special. She says to be careful turning them because they're "delicate". Also they had no sticktuitiveness. Instead of freezing two patties for another meal, we'll have them crumbled on a sandwich soon. Served with a bit of trio rice and some carrots tarted up with shaved parmesan, pine nuts, lemon juice, and parsley. A nice, if messy, dinner.

Wednesday/23-Mar-22: Ed got to both Drives today, with a hearing aid checkup in between.

Dinner was Yellow Fin Sole met Peterseliepesto (web; AH/aug10), with cod masquerading as the yellow fin sole. I bought way too much parsley for this, so now have two big bosjes to use up. I forgot that I meant to make some nice potatoes with this, so I made some trio rice at the last minute. For after we had some Mothais Poitevin (a local-ish goat cheese wrapped in a chestnut leaf) that was on sale this week.

Thursday/24-Mar-22: Dinner was based on a recipe I collected from EAT-L, Rotini and Crab. This sounded good when I collected it, but as I made it, I realized there was no sauce, nothing to hold the pasta, broccoli, and zuke together. So I stirred in a goodly chunk of a bakje of pyramid cheese. This was quite edible, if nothing special.

Friday/25-Mar-22: Dinner was a DMA recipe, Yogurt-Curry Marinated Chicken Thighs (web; GD; EW/mar-apr14). This was good. For a side there was Spanish Garlic Eggplant (web), easy and delicious, and store-bought Moroccan couscous. For after we split a mini bakje of HD ice cream.

Saturday/26-Mar-22: Since we're almost out of bread, I made a loaf of English Muffin Bread (MC). I'm going to move all my bread-makings to a spreadsheet similar to the one I used to keep for the bread machine when we were in Amstelveen. This is easier to maintain than the links I've been using, and easier to extract information from.

Dinner was Punjab Spiced Garbanzo Beans (BestPC, p119). This was ok, nothing to write home about. Served over plain basmati rice.

Sunday/27-Mar-22: We had lunch out today, then went to a concert. Nothing happened in the kitchen.

This week in the kitchen

Monday/14-Mar-22: Dinner was an oldie, but goodie, Balsamic Chicken Breasts (MC; LHJ/apr93). Easy and tasty. The sauce, of shallots, chicken stock, and balsamic vinegar, might be good with pork chops too. Orzo and broccoli for accompaniaments.

Put the beef on to marinate for tomorrow's dinner.

Tuesday/15-Mar-22: Dinner was Padma's Beef Shawarma with Beet Yogurt Sauce (web; EW/oct21). This was pretty good. The meat marinade was interesting, so the meat was tasty. The beet business was too thin, in contrast to the picture. Made a lot, so we'll be having this for days. Served with pita breads and chunks of regular cuke (not the Persian cuke asked).

Wednesday/16-Mar-22: Ed picked up orders from two from two Drives today, along with other errands.

Dinner was Sheet-Pan Salmon with Sweet Potatoes & Broccoli (web). Pretty good, this stuff. I'm a fan of sheet-pan dinners.

Thursday/17-Mar-22: Breakfast for dinner, which was Turmeric Fried Eggs with Tamarind and Pickled Shallots (web). Served with Perfect Hash Browns (web) as suggested. Very tasty. Not sure what to do with the leftover tamarind dressing.

Friday/18-Mar-22: Off for a haircut today. Dinner was Mediterranean Vegetable & Fish Stew from the freezer. For dessert we had apricot toetjes I got at the boulangerie near my hairdresser.

Saturday/19-Mar-22: An easy dinner, a half dose of Penne with Chorizo & Broccoli (web). These was easy and tasty. Stirred in a handful of arugula at the end rather than scattering the leaves.

Sunday/20-Mar-22: Dinner was Lamb Chilli and Mint (ThaiCC, p42), served with brown basmati rice. The lamb was simple to make and very tasty. And then there was Thai Cucumber Salad with Peanuts (web; GD), an old and still delicious favorite.

No photo this week.

This week in the kitchen

Monday/7-Mar-22: For dinner, working on the freezer backlog, I defrosted some chipolatas (nature or herbed, I think nature...unfortunately they don't label them when you order from the Drive) and grilled those. Served with smashed sweet potato and Stir-Fried Green Cabbage with Fennel Seeds (Q&E, p88) as a coleslaw stand-in. All was good.

Tuesday/8-Mar-22: Two Drive orders today, the second one quite late, so dinner was correspondingly late. We had Grilled Fish Steaks (Q&E, p66) with cod. Served with Simply Grilled Tomatoes (Q&E, p93) and Rice with Peas and Dill (Q&E, p103). We've had all of these before. They're good. I ordered some skyr for dessert, a kind of very think yogurt from Iceland, vanilla flavored. Nice stuff, not too sweet.

Wednesday/9-Mar-22: This afternoon, I looked at what I'd planned for tonight's meal and thought, eh. Instead I made Nasi Goreng Speciaal (MC), using up stuff in the freezer, more of my huge cabbage, and the rest of the varkenshaas from last weekend. It was good. We split an HD mini ice cream cup for after.

Thursday/10-Mar-22: Just didn't feel like cooking what was on the plan tonight, so we brought in  pizza.

Friday/11-Mar-22: Tonight's dinner was very loosely based on a recipe I collected from EAT-L, Cheese and Sausage Stuffed Zucchini (GD). I stuffed red bell peppers rather than zucchini. Unfortunately one of them was moldy on the bottom (it had been home only three days!), so I cut that off and wrapped the base in aluminum foil. The filling was Italian sausage, mozzarella, ricotta, chopped onions, Italian herbs, and some canned tomato pulp. These were supposed to be layered, but zucchini or bell pepper, I couldn't see the point of that. I put the stuffed peppers in a dish, added a bit of water to steam the bell peppers, covered with foil and baked. At the end, I removed the foil and added some slices of cheese before popping back in the oven to melt that. Pretty good stuff. Served nestled in a bit of arugula salad. Some HD mini ice cream cups for after.

Saturday/12-Mar-22: Tonight's dinner was again collected from EAT-L, from the same person! Our main was Pan-Seared Shrimp with Chipotle-Lime Glaze. Those were right tasty shrimpers, easy and fast to put together. Served with Spanish Garlic Zucchini (web; GD) and some plain grits.

Sunday/13-Mar-22: Dinner was Easy Lentil Supper Soup (Ainsley1, p45). The whole recipe will make three dinner servings, not four as advertised. Easy and very tasty. I didn't seed my chili, so it was nicely tingly.

This week in the kitchen

Monday/28-Feb-22: Dinner was a half recipe of Grilled Polenta with Triple-Pepper Sauce. This is from a magazine clipping, maybe VT, maybe CL; can't find it online. You make polenta, add some canned corn, put in a dish, and cool. Sauté red onions, garlic, a poblano (I used a fat green chili you can sometimes get at the grocery), a red bell pepper, ground coriander and cumin, and some canned black beans. Then grill the polenta and top with the veggies. Pretty good stuff.

Tuesday/1-Mar-22: Dinner was Garlicky Chicken with Lemon-Anchovy Sauce (web). I made this with turkey oysters. Pretty good stuff. Would be better to chop the anchovies a bit before adding them, so that they "melt" better; also the juice of a whole lemon would probably be nice. Served over a bit of whole wheat spaghetti, which was good with the sauce. For some veggie matter, there was Easy Sautéed Zucchini (web). This was easy and quite good even though I put in too many chili flakes.

Wednesday/2-Mar-22: Pickups from two Drives today. Dinner was a halfish recipe of Blackened Salmon with Zucchini (web). This was easy and good. Some whole-wheat couscous to fill the plate.

Thursday/3-Mar-22: We had lunch out in Angoulême today at a new Lebanese vegetarian restaurant with our friends from NL. Yummy. Nothing happened in the kitchen.

Friday/4-Mar-22: We had the second half of Lex's Roast Chicken/Coquelets for dinner, with some steamed green beans.

Saturday/5-Mar-22: Dinner was Gnocchis à a Crème et au Bleu d'Auvergne (SG#9). Haven't been able to find this only, even on SG's own site. It was simple and tasty. Served with a bit of arugula salad.

Sunday/6-Mar-22: Dinner was Pork Loin with Balsamic Fig Sauce (web), a varkenshaas with a nice figgy sauce. Served with hominy and about a third recipe of Grilled Green Beans with Warm Gorgonzola Vinaigrette (web—this is the recipe but not where I got it). I used some of the leftover bleu d'Auvergne rather than gorgonzola. All was good.

Another week, no picture. And, oddly, no cooking from a cookbook. Oh well.
